These verses from Proverbs continue to reveal the attributes of this virtuous woman, whose greatest quality is that she is a godly woman who worships and serves her creator. This is what she shall be remembered for, and her works shall be recognized and praised by the entire city.
These verses reveal to us a truth in regard to all women, and really, all people, as well. That truth is that youthfulness and outward beauty are temporary, while spiritual beauty and character will endure throughout one's life and continue into eternity. This virtuous woman's fear (respect) of the Lord and His commands was the thing that caused others to praise her. Only the things that we accomplish in this life for Christ will last. Everything else is vanity. We shall all reap the fruit of the things we sow in this life.
When we are young and have our whole life ahead of us, we really do not think of the day that we will grow old and die. We do not usually consider what kind of legacy we will leave. Will it be one like the virtuous woman whose works were praised by the entire city? These words below from Ecclesiastes remind us to remember the Lord when we are young and all through our life, as there is a day that old age will come and then we will not have the opportunity to serve the Lord like we have today. Today we can live by the Wisdom and knowledge found in the book of Proverbs and the Bible. In doing this, we shall not regret our days on the earth. This is the sum of what Solomon, in all of his wisdom, had to say, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man (Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV)"

If you read it again with this in mind, you will receive a wonderful revelation of the things that God's people can accomplish for the Lord, when they are totally committed to Him.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for including the book of Proverbs in the Bible. Lord, may I take heed to the wisdom in this book and apply it to my life. Teach me truth, and give me knowledge and revelation of Your Word, so that I might live an overcoming life in this earth. Guide me so that I might daily walk in the Spirit and do the things that You have called me to do in my lifetime. May the contributions I make to this world be those that are inspired by You, and come from Your heart. Let Your will be done in my life now, and always. I ask this in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

These verses from Proverbs 31 continue to list the virtues of this godly woman, who takes care of her domestic duties so well, that her children and husband praise her, and consider her to excel above all others. In
1 Timothy 5:13-15: 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.
Another area where Satan tries to push women to extremes is in the area of keeping household duties and spiritual pursuits in balance. Women who are unequally yoked are especially vulnerable in this area. If a woman is married to a man who is not a Christian, of course her desire would be to lead him to the Lord. We have all heard the old saying, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." If a wife has claimed her husband's heart for Jesus, she might try reaching it through his stomach, if all else has failed. Then, when he asks why the sudden change, she can humbly say the Lord spoke to her about neglecting him and the home, and that Jesus very much wants happy homes and happy husbands. He will be interested in knowing a God like that. It works with rebellious kids, too, applied a little differently. Many of our family members are really crying out for love through their very acts of rebellion. Let's remember to spend time with them, as God gave us the home first.
Some wives neglect their husbands and homes by engaging in too many spiritual pursuits. Of course, the opposite problem can also exist in our homes. Other problems arise when wives are so neat and fastidious about their homes that so much time is spent on cleaning and cooking, that they neglect the much needed time of family worship and fellowship. Houses then become a "shrine" to be admired, placing more emphasis on the "residence" than the "residents." Women can become "Marthas" instead of "Marys."
Luke 10:38-42:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
The Lord wants both areas balanced in our lives, so let us remember not to be so "heavenly minded" that we are no "earthly good." And on the other hand, let's not get so earthbound that we miss the beauty of the Spirit. The woman has her primary responsibility in the home, since the Scripture says she is to be the keeper of the home.
Titus 2:5: To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.''
Proverbs 31:28 says that the virtuous woman is such a wonderful wife and mother, that her husband praises her and her children bless her. Some of us may feel we fall far beneath this Biblical model, but we can aspire to her example by asking the Lord to help us in the areas where we are failing. As wives and mothers, we should examine our lives to see where we fall short, and ask God to help us be like the companion and mother spoken about in these verses. Do our children call us blessed? What about our husbands? Are they praising us as wives?
Perhaps our children are rebellious at this time; maybe our husbands are far from the Christian ideal, and neither is praising, nor blessing us. Do we blame them, and insist that the Lord change them, or do we look at ourselves and ask the Lord to turn the searchlight upon our own faults and failures, so that He might work a change in us? Our number one problem is not our children, our mates, our job, or our circumstances--it is ourselves. Until we are willing to change ourselves, the Lord cannot begin the needed changes in our families.
How does God effect these changes in our lives? First of all, we must be honest with God and face our shortcomings and sins. We must come confessing, "God, I am resentful toward this person; I can't help it; I don't want to be like this; help me change. Lord, help me to be the kind of wife and mother that will inspire my husband and children to rise up and call me blessed. Amen." As we yield to the Lord and follow His promptings, we shall surely see changes in our lives and in the lives of those we love.
We must begin by seeing the kind of woman we are. Are we like this virtuous woman, or the contentious woman in Proverbs 21:19? I'm sure our desire is that we fit into the category of the first type, for we certainly do not want to be referred to as angry and contentious. But I wonder, if we honestly examined our hearts and motives and let the Lord turn His searchlight on us, if we might not see some areas where anger and contention do exist in our lives. Perhaps we do not openly voice our anger, but inside we feel it toward our husbands or children; and because we do not voice it, we have feelings of resentment toward them.
Jesus, in the New Testament, talked much about our thought life and our inner feelings. Remember, as He spoke to the religious leaders of His day, He reproved them for their evil hearts, even though their outward deeds appeared to be right and good. We can outwardly do our duties as mothers and wives, but inside our hearts, we may not really be lovingly ministering to them. We may be motivated by duty, not love. None of us really appreciate people doing things for us simply because it is their job. The real witness to others is when we do something simply because we love them. A lot of Spirit-filled Christians are eager to show the love of Jesus to everyone else, but those of their own households often suffer from a lack of love. Let us certainly show the love of Jesus to all we meet, but let us remember to show it in our homes first, asking the Lord to give us the true Spirit of love in performing our daily chores; then we will receive the praise from our mates and children, as did this noble, virtuous woman.

Although I may not be called to accomplish all the many things the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31 did, may I be faithful in my particular duties. You gift us in different ways, so empower me to use my gifts to bless my family, and bring glory to You. Give me Your love, so that I may serve out of love, and not duty. Lord, may I turn my daily tasks into celebrations of love. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Her clothing is of linen, pure and fine, and of purple (such as that of which the clothing of the priests and the hallowed cloths of the temple were made).
Thoughts for the Day
These verses from Proverbs give us a description of how the virtuous woman clothes herself, and her household. The physical clothing and coverings are a type of the spiritual covering we have in Christ through His blood. The scripture mentions here that she is not afraid for her household when cold weather comes, because she has taken care of them in advance, by seeing to it that they are all clothed properly.
The term "clothed with scarlet" also has a spiritual application, as the scarlet wool used by Moses in the Old Testament is spoken of in the New Testament, in relation to the blood that Jesus shed for the remission of sins for all people. Therefore, when we are "clothed with scarlet," we are covered by the blood of Jesus, meaning we are saved by the shedding of His blood on the cross. This, then, would mean that the virtuous woman saw to it that all of her household was saved by faith in the blood of Jesus. Covered by the blood of Jesus, we will not fear any cold and dark night of trial. He will see us through it.
Hebrews 9:19-22:19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Studying the scripture, we will find that "scarlet thread" running throughout the Bible. In the book of Joshua, we find a woman named Rahab (who was not an Israelite) that helped God's people by hiding two of the spies that came to spy out the land of Jericho, where she lived. Even though she was a harlot, she acknowledged the God of Israel and asked the two spies to spare her life and the lives of her family when the Israelite army came to invade the city. They agreed to do this because she saved their lives. They told her to tie a scarlet ribbon in the window of her home and they would instruct the soldiers not to invade that house. Again, we see a type of the blood of Jesus sparing a life.
Joshua 2:18-19:18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
This same type is seen when the blood of lambs was put on the doorposts by the Israelites the night of the Passover in Egypt. Whenever the blood was on the doorpost of that household, the death angel passed it by and the first-born son was spared.
Exodus 12:22-23:22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
In Proverbs 31:22, the virtuous woman also made other clothing and coverings. This verse mentions that her clothing was made from fine linen. This also has a spiritual application as we find that the bride of Christ is mentioned as wearing white linen garments that represent righteousness and holiness that come with salvation.
Isaiah 61:10: I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.
Revelation 19:7-8:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
We can all be dressed in this fine linen that is white (representing purity) by accepting Christ as our Saviour. This happens by exchanging our scarlet sins for the scarlet blood of Jesus, Who cleanses us from all unrighteousness.
Isaiah 1:18: Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am grateful for the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross for my sins. Lord, I thank You for washing me clean by the blood of Jesus. Lord, give me the holy boldness to share what You have done for me with others, so that they too might know salvation and deliverance from their sins. Thank You that I can wear the robe of righteousness and may I never tarnish it in the sight of the world. Grant that I remain a faithful witness. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

These verses from Proverbs give us a description of how the virtuous woman clothes herself, and her household. The physical clothing and coverings are a type of the spiritual covering we have in Christ through His blood. The scripture mentions here that she is not afraid for her household when cold weather comes, because she has taken care of them in advance, by seeing to it that they are all clothed properly.
The term "clothed with scarlet" also has a spiritual application, as the scarlet wool used by Moses in the Old Testament is spoken of in the New Testament, in relation to the blood that Jesus shed for the remission of sins for all people. Therefore, when we are "clothed with scarlet," we are covered by the blood of Jesus, meaning we are saved by the shedding of His blood on the cross. This, then, would mean that the virtuous woman saw to it that all of her household was saved by faith in the blood of Jesus. Covered by the blood of Jesus, we will not fear any cold and dark night of trial. He will see us through it.

She is also a capable businesswoman who not only saves, but also has the wisdom to purchase land, and plant a vineyard. Those who are successful and accomplish anything in this world all have one thing in common, and that is a life of discipline. Some people are just disciplined to rise early and plan their day, while those who are godly, may rise early, but their agenda is different -- they rise to pray and seek God before they begin their day.
One of the best habits a person can develop is the habit of prayer and daily Bible reading. This is where our spiritual strength and guidance come from. I like to do what I call preventative prayers. When I have rushed out without prayer in the morning, and later on in the day run into problems, which force me to stop and pray, it is because I have failed to pray preventative prayers (those prayers that would have prevented the problem in the first place). The Lord spoke to me one time that if I prayed about my problems as much as I talked about my problems, I would not even have the problems. Seeking God early equips us to not only hear God for our own guidance, but we can also help those who work for us or with us. The virtuous woman will spiritually feed her household, as well as provide breakfast in the morning.
Verse 16 tells us this wise woman also had the ability to execute business negotiations. She found a field (a piece of land) and looked it over very carefully before she considered buying it. She also took into consideration as to how she would have the time and energy to plant and oversee the vineyard she planned on planting in this field. Planning and organizing are both necessary skills to make any enterprise a success. There is an old adage that says, "If we fail to plan, we will plan to fail." Once plans are made, then the hard part of executing those plans comes into play. Many people are exuberant upon starting a new project, but one must be steadfast, and dedicated to the task, if they aim to see their business a success.
This woman also knew she must not neglect other duties in order to launch out in this endeavor. Those who pursue business endeavors at the expense of neglecting their families are not pleasing to God. It takes hard work and personal sacrifice to take care of both responsibilities properly, so one should "count the cost" before deciding to take on a business endeavor, on top of the domestic duties of family and home. One of the reasons some women become resentful is that many are holding down an outside job, along with the job of homemaking, and the two have become burdensome. The question of whether or not a woman should work outside the home and leave her children in the care of others has been a much debated one in the church. The ideal, especially when children are small, would be for the woman to stay home and rear the family. However, if a woman can handle her household responsibilities plus an outside job, the Scripture certainly does not forbid her from working away from home. The main thing is to follow the Lord's plan for your life and always do things in love. If the Lord is leading us to do something, He will provide all that we need to accomplish it. And whatever we do, we should do it fervently as unto the Lord. We must never be slothful in our business, because how we run our business is a reflection of how much we are allowing the Lord to rule our lives.
Romans 12:10-13:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

Thoughts for the Day
These verses from Proverbs begin to list all the different duties and things that this virtuous woman in this chapter is involved in doing. Among them are her household duties of seeing that her family is clothed and fed. We find she is a very industrious woman, as she shops for the wool and flax she will need to create the necessary clothing for her family. This was no easy task, as most everything was made from the raw materials in the individual homes. "Ready-made" items were too costly for the common man. Most families bought the wool and flax at the market and brought it home to spin and weave it into fabric.
Flax is the oldest textile fiber and one of the earliest plants cultivated in Egypt and Palestine. Like wool, it was a chief textile material. Flax was also made into girdles and garments. The fleece or soft fine hair of sheep was also used in Bible times for coverings, clothing and coats. The "Proverbs 31" woman not only went to the market and purchased her wool and flax, she also worked with it with her own hands to develop it, and spin it, so that it could be woven into the proper clothes and covers for the household.
Verse 14 also records another one of her domestic duties, and that was the daily duty of preparing meals for her family. This took a great deal of time also, because in those days there was no refrigeration, so this meant daily trips to the market for fresh foods, such as meats, vegetables and fresh fruits. Bread was baked almost every day from grain that was ground into flour. Other staple foods were dried legumes, dried fruits and vegetables, eggs, milk, butter, cheese, honey, salt, spices and olive oil. All meals were prepared from "scratch" and the first step was to go to the market and find the different ingredients needed to cook the meals. Many of her items would come from afar, such as the dates, spices, salt and grain.
Looking at the verses, we can see one of the attributes of a virtuous woman is that she is industrious and a hard worker. The love she had for her family was expressed in the way she took care of them. In the verses below, one of the admonitions given to women in the New Testament is that they be "keepers at home."
Titus 2:3-5:3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Looking at these scriptures, we see that the older Christian women were charged to be examples to the younger ones in their behavior. They were to be holy, pure and not false accusers. They were not to become drunk and they were to teach the younger women how to love their husbands and their children. We should take note that love is not a feeling here, but something that is to be taught and learned. Our deeds are an expression of our love; therefore, if we are to love our husbands and children, we must be discreet, chaste, good, submissive to our husbands and we must keep our homes in order. That means one of the main things we are to do is to keep a clean house, wash the clothes, and prepare the meals for our families. The home is to be a refuge for the whole family, so the wife is charged with the care of it, while the husband is to provide the means to maintain it.
One thing we notice about these verses is that the older women are instructed to teach the younger women how to love their husbands. In our society, we have the idea that when we fall in love with a man, this love (emotion) will keep the marriage together. This is far from the truth. Of course, emotional love is part of marriage, but the kind of love that the Scripture is referring to here in these verses has to be taught and learned. It is God's love as spoken of in I Corinthians 13. We might also call it character.
The first step in learning how to love a husband, or anyone else for that matter, is to receive Christ into our hearts and let Him become our teacher. As we love Him and He loves us, that love spills over to those around us. We learn how to love others through reading, studying and applying God's Word to our hearts and our lives. Those who are older and more experienced can share with the younger ladies, in order that they may be spared many heartaches by heeding their godly advice. Let us not think that we have all the answers but truly be open to the advice of those who are older and wiser, whether they be in the church, or part of our family. Remember, the first commandment with a promise is the one that says, "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee" (Exodus 20:12).

Lord, I am asking You to give me your love and grace, not only to love my husband, but my children as well. May I express Your love to them in the daily affairs of life. Give me the strength to be a good housekeeper and cook, along with my other duties as a wife and mother. Deliver me from selfishness and let me consider my family before my own needs. Lord, I know when I do this, that You will take care of my needs. I ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Sometimes I think whatI would do without God. I think about the time I didn't know him and I ask myself how did I survive? I know if I didn't know him now I probably be dead. Everyday I get closer and closer to God and can't see my life without him. Really think about God's role in your life. If you don't appreciate him it's probably cause you don't know him.

As a young man, Solomon was a man of splendid character, and much of this was because of his mother's (Bathsheba's) influence. This chapter begins with a conversation between his mother and him. In speaking to him, she asks the question as to what kind of advice she should give him in verse 2. She also mentions that he is a son of her vows, which means she has dedicated him to the Lord. God has used many children in great ways over the centuries, as other mothers made these same vows.
Susanna Wesley was such a woman and her two sons, John and Charles, were responsible for touching the lives of many people. John Wesley was the founder of Methodism, while his brother, Charles, wrote over 9000 hymns and poems. John Wesley received much of his early spiritual and academic training from his mother, Susanna Wesley. The year 2003 marked the 300th anniversary of the birth of John Wesley. His life is still influencing people today and Susanna receives much of the credit for her faithfulness as a dedicated mother, who taught her children in the ways of the Lord.
Another great woman of prayer in the Bible also dedicated her son to God, and he was used in a mighty way in the days when the light of God was burning low during Israel's history. Her name was Hannah, and her son served as the great prophet, Samuel.
1 Samuel 1:20-28:20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. The first instruction that Lemuel is given by his mother in Proverbs 31:3 is for him to stay away from loose women. She also warns him to stay away from all bad companions that would ruin or destroy his life. We need to remember, as this woman did, it is our responsibility to warn our children of the dangers of hanging out with the wrong crowd. Also, there are warnings in the Bible to young people to stay away from habitual sinners. There is an old saying stating that, "Birds of a feather flock together." If we do not want to be like the kinds of people that are evil, we must not be buddies with them, nor allow our children to buddy with them. There is another saying, "If you play with fire, you will get burned." Young people, and older people as well, cannot entertain the notion that you can be close to wickedness and not find yourself being drug into the same wicked deeds that they do. If we do not resist evil, it will soon overtake us. Smaller sins eventually lead to bigger ones.
This mother knew if her son was to remain a king, he must act with integrity and be careful who he chose to be his friends. There are three temptations that can bring a good man down. These are the misuse of wealth, and the tendency of pride because of fame, and the involvement with the wrong women. These are especially true for a king or anyone who is in a position of authority.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the many women over the years who have dedicated their children to the Lord and those children have in turn, served You. May I, and all mothers, realize the awesome responsibility and opportunity we have to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Use our children in Your kingdom and cause them to become strong Christian witnesses. May they speak the Word of the Lord, even as we speak and teach the Word to them. Use them as Your humble servants and keep them from evil. I ask this in the name of the Lord, Jesus. Amen.

These verses from Proverbs instruct us not to exalt ourselves and also to guard our mouths from speaking the evil things that we think. We are also warned if we force wrath, we will get into strife.
Verse 32 warns against pride and self exaltation, as they are serious sins; and the best way to avoid these sins is to be careful not to brag about our own deeds. We see examples of those in the Bible who yielded to this sin and faced grave consequences. King Saul in the Old Testament was one of those people. When he no longer was "little in his own eyes" we find that he took matters in his own hands and disobeyed what the Lord told him to do. Because of this, he lost his position as king, because God rejected him. Although he made sacrifices unto the Lord, God was not pleased with him because he did not obey Him. Samuel, the Prophet of the Lord, told him that obedience was better than sacrifice. The root of Saul's disobedience was pride in thinking he could do it his own way.

It gives an illustration of how the churning of milk will produce butter, and someone who forcefully picks their nose will cause it to bleed; in the same way someone who forces an angry, wrathful issue will surely cause strife. Someone who does this is often referred to as a person who stirs up trouble. My husband, Bud, in his ranching days, recalls a time when he gave the ranch hands some advice about the way to avoid situations that would cause trouble. He told them, "You cowboys can just walk through that cow pen and get to the other side and you won't smell a thing; but if you take a stick and stir up the manure while you walk through it, it's gonna smell real bad." This proverb gives the same advice -- just walk on by when there is trouble brewing.
Proverbs 15:1-2:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.2 The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

Lord, may I also answer softly to those who would try to stir me to anger. Help me to be silent when I should not speak, and to speak up when I should. May my words be like Yours. Thoughts for the Day
These verses from Proverbs tell us there are four things that are stately in step, and in their stride. Three are animals and the fourth is a king who is in command, with no one rising up against him. Why would these be mentioned in a book about wisdom?
As always, the Bible uses many natural illustrations so that we can gain spiritual truths. What causes an animal like the lion to walk in such a stately step? He is known as one of the strongest beasts, but it is not just his strength that causes him to stride confidently. It is his lack of fear. He is known as "King of the Beasts" and his strength and prowess give him this advantage; however, his confidence comes because he is not afraid of any other animal and does not turn away from any of them. The spiritual truth that we can glean from this observation is that we also can be strong and unafraid, if we walk with God and claim His strength and His confidence.
Ephesians 6:10-13: 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Notice this scripture tells us that we are to "be strong in the Lord." We are not told to be strong in our own might and power. When we claim His strength by faith, then no foe can overcome us. If we wear the "armour of God," then the fiery darts of the enemy cannot overcome us. We must recognize that our battle is not with "flesh and blood" (people); it is with the spiritual powers of darkness. If we pray for the people the devil is using against us, and take authority over those powers in the name of Jesus, then the devil will have to cease his attacks against them and us. We are told not to fear what man can do to us, as God is greater than any man.
Psalm 56:11: In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Proverbs 30:31 also mentions another stately animal, the greyhound. The greyhound is a dog that is known for its ability to run very fast. His swiftness gives him an advantage over other animals, as he can not only outrun pursuers, but he can also chase down his prey and catch them. He is very confident in any race, as he knows he can outrun most anything. The Bible talks of other animals that are also known as swift animals, such as the eagle and the roe. There are certain things that we need to be swift about, while others we should be slow in doing. The scripture tell us to be swift to hear, while slow to speak. Someone has said that God gave us two ears and only one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we speak.
James 1:19-20:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
The next animal mentioned that is stately in their stride, in Proverbs 30:31, is the he-goat. The male mountain goat is very majestic as he climbs and leaps on the steep rocky cliffs, high upon the mountain side. He also is very confident, as he is not afraid of falling. This sure-footedness comes because he has learned from his youth the way of the mountain. As Christians, we can also gain confidence by studying and learning the truths of the Bible, so that we are not afraid of the high places we must climb to overcome our weaknesses. We must trust the Lord to give us hinds' feet.
Psalm 18:33-34: 33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
The last example the scripture uses in Proverbs 30:31 talks about a king who has no one who is rising up against him; therefore he can ride forth on his horse in great confidence. It is quite a picture to see a military processional parade down a street for review. The general (or king), dressed in his military finest, rides on the lead horse who is girded up for the occasion. Backed by his finest men, he rides forth in great confidence, since their are no uprisings against him that he must deal with at the present time. He is also stately in appearance, as the other animals mentioned in these verses are. We can also be as this rider, when we allow the Holy Spirit to work His confidence and demeanor in us. We can also have confidence in Him when we pray, knowing that if we ask anything of Him that is His will for us, we will receive it.
1 John 5:14-15: 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Dear Heavenly Father, Give us the confidence we need in order to overcome the things we face in our daily lives. Deliver us from all fear so that we will not allow the pressure of the world to cause us to compromise in any way. May we always trust You and have confidence in You, knowing that You will never fail us, nor leave us. Let us always walk with our heads high when it comes to being a witness for You. We gladly will bear any reproach that comes because we are a Christian. We proudly bear Your name and ask that we can always walk stately and unafraid in the face of our enemies. In Your name I pray. As always, the Bible uses many natural illustrations so that we can gain spiritual truths. What causes an animal like the lion to walk in such a stately step? He is known as one of the strongest beasts, but it is not just his strength that causes him to stride confidently. It is his lack of fear. He is known as "King of the Beasts" and his strength and prowess give him this advantage; however, his confidence comes because he is not afraid of any other animal and does not turn away from any of them. The spiritual truth that we can glean from this observation is that we also can be strong and unafraid, if we walk with God and claim His strength and His confidence.
Ephesians 6:10-13: 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Notice this scripture tells us that we are to "be strong in the Lord." We are not told to be strong in our own might and power. When we claim His strength by faith, then no foe can overcome us. If we wear the "armour of God," then the fiery darts of the enemy cannot overcome us. We must recognize that our battle is not with "flesh and blood" (people); it is with the spiritual powers of darkness. If we pray for the people the devil is using against us, and take authority over those powers in the name of Jesus, then the devil will have to cease his attacks against them and us. We are told not to fear what man can do to us, as God is greater than any man.
Psalm 56:11: In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Proverbs 30:31 also mentions another stately animal, the greyhound. The greyhound is a dog that is known for its ability to run very fast. His swiftness gives him an advantage over other animals, as he can not only outrun pursuers, but he can also chase down his prey and catch them. He is very confident in any race, as he knows he can outrun most anything. The Bible talks of other animals that are also known as swift animals, such as the eagle and the roe. There are certain things that we need to be swift about, while others we should be slow in doing. The scripture tell us to be swift to hear, while slow to speak. Someone has said that God gave us two ears and only one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we speak.
James 1:19-20:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
The next animal mentioned that is stately in their stride, in Proverbs 30:31, is the he-goat. The male mountain goat is very majestic as he climbs and leaps on the steep rocky cliffs, high upon the mountain side. He also is very confident, as he is not afraid of falling. This sure-footedness comes because he has learned from his youth the way of the mountain. As Christians, we can also gain confidence by studying and learning the truths of the Bible, so that we are not afraid of the high places we must climb to overcome our weaknesses. We must trust the Lord to give us hinds' feet.
Psalm 18:33-34: 33 He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.34 He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
The last example the scripture uses in Proverbs 30:31 talks about a king who has no one who is rising up against him; therefore he can ride forth on his horse in great confidence. It is quite a picture to see a military processional parade down a street for review. The general (or king), dressed in his military finest, rides on the lead horse who is girded up for the occasion. Backed by his finest men, he rides forth in great confidence, since their are no uprisings against him that he must deal with at the present time. He is also stately in appearance, as the other animals mentioned in these verses are. We can also be as this rider, when we allow the Holy Spirit to work His confidence and demeanor in us. We can also have confidence in Him when we pray, knowing that if we ask anything of Him that is His will for us, we will receive it.
1 John 5:14-15: 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Give us the confidence we need in order to overcome the things we face in our daily lives. Deliver us from all fear so that we will not allow the pressure of the world to cause us to compromise in any way. May we always trust You and have confidence in You, knowing that You will never fail us, nor leave us. Let us always walk with our heads high when it comes to being a witness for You. We gladly will bear any reproach that comes because we are a Christian. We proudly bear Your name and ask that we can always walk stately and unafraid in the face of our enemies. In Your name I pray. Amen.

When you are in at war with yourself just remember to stay connected with God. The flesh hates God and anything dealing with God. The spirit will manifest the image of God in you. When these two go to war it is definitely a battle but I am here to tell you that if you allow it the spirit win everytime. You have to train your spirit like you would any soldier. Feed him the right things, make him exercise and let him get the proper rest for battle. For all these years you have trained the flesh. But a good soldier will submit. The flesh will never do that which will allow him to lose. So the next time you are at war and wondering who will win ask yourself who have you been training.

These four creatures are the ant, the coney (a small rabbit-like animal), the locust, and the spider. All of them are described as being small, yet they use certain techniques that give them great advantage.
First (in verse 25) is the ant, and it is applauded because it stores up its food in the summer for the long hard winter months, when food is scarce, and the ant cannot go out and forage for food. This characteristic is a very wise one because in an imperfect world, we all face times when we need a reserve to fall back on. Today we call it, "saving for a rainy day." This is a habit that we all need to develop, as there are always times when a store of food or money can be used to come to our rescue. Saving money and making emergency preparations are different than hoarding things. When people hoard, they lack a trust in God. Hoarding is usually done in secret and has a selfish motive behind it, while saving is designed to meet future needs. Hoarding has a fear and greed element attached to it, while saving and preparing for the future is directed by God. Joseph, in the Old Testament, was a man who was used to store up grain during seven bountiful years in order to feed the people during seven years of drought and famine.
The coney is the next animal listed in verse 26. Conies, rabbit-like creatures, were small and feeble animals, therefore they were vulnerable, as larger animals sought them for prey. However, they achieved safety because they made their homes in the rocks. Even the larger animals who sought to capture them could not navigate in the rocks as well as on open ground; nor could they dig in the rocks and uncover their homes. Although the coney was feeble, because he had a secure house in the rocks, it gave him the protection he needed. We can learn from this animal by securing our homes, before we purchase other things. So many people today are getting secondary loans against their homes to pay off credit card bills; others who have their homes paid for are mortgaging them also. This is a very unwise thing to do, as a home that is paid for gives people great security if, and when, hard times come. One scenario is that a person can lose their credit rating, if they fail to pay their credit card debt timely; however, that is not as bad as losing your home for lack of payment and having nowhere to go.
In verse 27 the locusts are listed as wise also. Although they have no king or ruler, they join together in organized ranks to go out when they attack an area. Christians could well learn from this. If we banded together on major issues that are coming against our Christian principles and rights, we could ravage the enemy, even as the locusts ravage a field when they attack. Each one devours the foliage directly around them, and as they all go forward, soon there is nothing left in the field. If every Christian attacked the field of evil in their area, then we could win the entire battle that the devil has assailed against us.
Lastly, in verse 28, we are told that not even the king with all his wealth and power can keep spiders out of his house. This is because the spider is able to climb walls quickly to high places and disappear in small crevasses; therefore, they escape being detected and destroyed. They are wise in not remaining in the open, thus inviting attacks. They are careful where they go. We would be wise to be more discreet in our affairs, thus avoiding attack from the enemy. People who are prideful and brag about their wealth, or parade their finery, invite thieves to their households. Hezekiah made this mistake in the Old Testament.

Teach us Your wisdom in our daily affairs, so that we learn how to prevent problems in our lives. Lord, may we walk in love in all of our affairs, as that is one of the wisest things we can do. This verse from Proverbs tells us the penalty for mocking, scorning and disobeying our parents is death. The ravens and vultures are scavengers who come after something dies, to pick the flesh off the bones of the dead body. The Bible stresses that children are to respect and obey their parents, throughout its pages. It is so important to God, that it is included in the list of the "Ten Commandments" that Moses delivered to the Israelites.
Exodus 20:12: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
To a certain extent, God wants us to treat our parents the way that we are to treat Him, in that we are to bring honor to His name with our actions and words; so we should also honor our parents in the same manner. This commandment regarding our parents is also repeated in the New Testament.
Ephesians 6:1-3:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.2 Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
The interesting thing about this commandment is that it is the first one with a promise attached to it. That promise is that we will have a long life, if we will respect our parents. This promise may sound vague and general, but there is an immediate application to it, especially in the lives of children. If children obey their parents, it can literally save their lives. Take, for instance, a little child who disregards his parent's warning to look both ways before crossing a street. He may very easily get run over by a car, if he continues to disobey his parent's instructions. His life can be cut short because of a simple act of disobedience. It really is true that disobedient children have a greater chance of not living long. The quality of their life may also be diminished because of rebellion. The Lord says that children should be trained to continually honor and esteem their parents. We are to also instill a respect in our children for all of those in authority, such as policemen, school officials, church elders, etc.
If a child does not have a sense of respect for their parents, he or she will often have a harder time respecting other authority figures, as well. I believe that this verse refers to more than just our biological parents, although it certainly is the first application we will want to make with this commandment. However, we see in Ephesians that God is saying that we must also obey our "parents in the Lord." Therefore, this verse also refers to the elders within the church.
All of the "Ten Commandments" deal with rebellion in one way or another. Ultimately, it is rebellion that keeps us from obeying them. We cannot love God with all of our heart, when there is rebellion in our heart. No matter which commandment He requires of us, He wants us to be submissive to Him and obey Him, trusting that He knows what is best for us. The Lord is looking for a submissive spirit in us, and that is why it is so important that we learn submission to our parents and elders. If we fail to obey, then it reveals rebellion in us, and then the Lord must deal with an attitude problem in us.
God dealt very strongly with rebellious children in the Old Testament. The penalty for not honoring one’s parents was being stoned to death. It had the same penalty as adultery and murder. It was a serious offense before God. Rebellion against parents was a worse sin than stealing.
Exodus 21:15, 17: And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death... And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
The word for "curseth" in the above verse, is "qalal." It means "to make light of, bring into contempt or despise." It is a serious offense to God, to hatefully belittle or mock one’s parents. Even if there is not much about them that demands our respect, we must refrain from speaking reviling words against them. This is especially important for young people to understand. Don't speak evil of your parents! The penalty for such talk is death in the Old Testament. It is a serious offense in God's eyes to do that. We are to speak honorably towards our parents, and bless them.
These verses sound extreme to our modern ears, but I personally believe that it would do us good as a society to impose stricter punishment upon crime, from an early age up. This will work for everyone’s good. We are so lenient on rebellion, and even glamorize it, thus encouraging young people to break the commandments of God. If children are raised, however, to follow the rules of their parents and of God, their lives will be so much easier on every level.

I honor You as my Heavenly Father and gladly submit unto You, trusting You in all things. Please remove any trace of rebellion from my heart. I also honor my natural parents and my spiritual parents. Lord, I desire to always be respectful to the church elders and the authorities that You have designated in the earth. These verses from Proverbs record things that are destructive and are never satisfied. They list examples in nature to show how destructive certain things are. The first thing that is mentioned is a horseleech that is calling out, "give, give." A horseleech was a parasite that was common in Palestine and it lodged in the throats of horses. The horses would pick them up from drinking in pools of contaminated water. All parasites and leeches live off of a host that gives them life, while draining the one who is the host. There are people who are like this also; they live off of others, while they contribute nothing. They drain the people that they hang onto. They are just like the horseleech, they take and take.
After mentioning the horseleech, the scripture then mentions three more things that are never satisfied, plus a fourth one. The list is the grave, a barren womb, parched earth, and fire. These things are all things that are destructive and bring pain and heartache. The first on the list are death and hell, and they are never satisfied, because they are always calling for more inhabitants. One of the descriptions of hell is that it is like a large gaping mouth that devours the wicked. Since hell is never satisfied, it is never full, so it enlarges itself, as more and more wicked people go there.

The next thing in the list that causes dissatisfaction is a woman who has a barren womb. It is very heartbreaking to see a woman who is yearning to have a child, but cannot have one. She cannot be comforted and is never satisfied with her condition. The Bible promises that His women are blessed and part of that blessing is the ability to have children. It is the devil who causes women to be unable to have children. We have seen many women, who after prayer, were able to have a baby, when the doctor said they could never conceive. God's power and love can break the curse of a barren womb.
Deuteronomy 7:13: And he will love thee, and bless thee, and multiply thee: he will also bless the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee.
Another thing that is never satisfied is the earth, when it is in need of water. It can become so dry that it takes a lot of rain to bring it back to normal, when the land is in a drought. Drought is also a part of the curse spoken about in the Bible and it comes on a land, when sin has multiplied in it. When people begin practicing idolatry and turn from the living God, the earth suffers for it.
Deuteronomy 11:13-17: 13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;17 And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.
The fourth thing that is never satisfied is a fire. Fire consumes everything that it touches and the very life of a fire is dependent upon consuming whatever is its source of fuel. There is nothing more devastating to view than the after-math of a fire. Our state has had many forest fires since we have been in the worst drought in over a hundred years. When driving by these areas, it is very depressing to see mile after mile of charred timber that was once stately green forests. Fire is never satisfied, as it devours everything around it, and only goes out when there is nothing left to fuel it.
Dissatisfaction and discontent are two evils that we must never embrace as Christians. After we receive the Lord as our Savior, we should never yield to these again, as the Lord promises us contentment and peace, no matter what kind of circumstance we may find ourselves in.

Dear Heavenly Father, Praises be to Your Name for delivering us from the curses of the enemy! I thank You for Your many blessings, and am grateful that You have redeemed us from the curse. Lord, set us free from all dissatisfaction and discontent. Lord, today, may I find my peace and contentment in You. Father, I am grateful for Your protection against the curses of the devil. Thank You for protecting my property from fire and sending us rain in due season. I am grateful for the refreshing rains You send and I know the animals, trees, grasses and the earth are happy, too. We thank You for Your many blessings and pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

These verses from Proverbs tell us there is a generation of people who are so wicked that they curse their own parents; and they are so prideful, they do not see their own wickedness of evil speaking, and taking advantage of the poor and needy for their own benefit.
I believe these verses were not only speaking of an evil generation at the time of this writing, but they are also prophetic in nature, pointing to the generation that would exist right before the second coming of the Lord Jesus. In the New Testament, this same generation is described in these words:
2 Timothy 3:1-5: 1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
As we compare these two lists of verses, we can see that in Proverbs, the Bible says this generation will curse their parents, while in 2 Timothy, it is stated that they will be disobedient to their parents. In Proverbs, it says this generation will be prideful and think they are holy, while in 2 Timothy, it speaks of them as heady and high-minded and having a form of godliness.
James 5:1-6: 1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.
Proverbs 30:14 talks about a generation that devours and takes advantage of the poor, while the scriptures in James speak of rich men who have heaped up their money at the expense of defrauding those who labored for them by paying them inadequate wages. The Lord hears the cries of these poor people and in the end, these kinds of wicked people will surely reap what they have sown. There is a generation of people who have hardened their hearts to the things of God, and God is angry with them. They cannot enter in the rest of God unless they repent. The generation that does evil toward their own parents by cursing them, is low indeed. And the second evil of taking advantage of the poor, makes them more despicable, as they are hard-hearted with no feelings for the needy.
Hebrews 3:7-11: 7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your many blessings. Lord, may all of Your people be mindful of honoring and blessing their parents. Lord, I pray that You will use me to reach out to the poor and needy. Lord, scatter this wicked generation of people who are exploiting the poor and needy. Send your servants out to minister to the poor, the hungry, the needy, the hurting, the sick and the lost. As You use each of us to do our part, we can be the answer to the cries of the needy. Meet all of their needs. I ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.

God told me to tell you about unconditional love this morning. So I wanted to provide you with the definition of unconditional: (Without conditions or limitations; absolute). Then God told me a definition for unconditional love is to love someone without thought no matter what. Then I really thought about this. This is the waay God love me and you. Yesterday my mother and I was having a discussion about which love was strong, a mother's love for her child or a child love for her mother. I laugh now as we discussed who love who more but God was showing me even with all the love I have for my mother and she has for me there is a greater love, God's unconditional love. So I asked God isn't this the same love but he showed me different situation where there are mothers who don't love there kids and kids who don't love there mothers but no matter what God will always love you and me.
So as God and I talked a little bit longer ww discussed how in a parent child relationship a child may do wrong and the parent may punish him/her for it but the parent is teaching us a valuable lesson and never lose love for us. The parent want the child to feel remorse for what they had done and never do it again. Well this is what God is saying to his children, do wrong, repent and turn from your flesh. I hope this message touch your heart and abide in your for ever. Just remember God loves you.

Thoughts for the Day
This verse from Proverbs tells us not to falsely accuse or scold another man's servant, as the servant's owner will curse you for adding to the burdens of the lowly. A curse in the Bible is referring to speaking negatively or evil about, or against, someone. A good master will protect his servants against those who would try to accuse or abuse them without cause. This would apply to an employer and employee relationship as well. A good boss will always protect his faithful employees.
This verse is not referring to a wicked servant or employee, as one like that should be reprimanded. However, anyone who would reproach another man's employee because of their own faulty character, the employer should stick up for that employee. This happens many times when a customer is impatient with regard to their service or disgruntled about some merchandise. Instead of being respectful about discussing the situation or the faulty product, customers sometimes get angry and yell at and berate the one who is trying to help them. A boss, in this case, many find the customer guilty of an attitude problem, instead of his employee or servant being at fault.
The principles in the Bible teach us that we are to respect all people -- no matter what class they are, what race they are, what position they hold, what age they are, or what sex they are. The Bible teaches we are to esteem all persons, as God is the creator of all mankind, and each life is important to Him, and He is no respecter of men. God looks on the hearts of men and women, not on the outward appearance. When we are "born again" into the family of God, by accepting Christ as our Savior, then, we all become brothers and sisters in the Lord and we are to honor and respect one another.
Romans 12:10: Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.
We are also told to especially honor our elders, widows, our masters (bosses), our parents, and people in authority who rule over us.
1 Timothy 5:17: Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.1 Timothy 5:1-3:1 Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

When we are "born again" into the family of God, by accepting Christ as our Savior, then, we all become brothers and sisters in the Lord and we are to honor and respect one another.
Romans 12:10: Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another.
We are also told to especially honor our elders, widows, our masters (bosses), our parents, and people in authority who rule over us.
1 Timothy 5:17: Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.1 Timothy 5:1-3:1 Rebuke not an elder, but entreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.3 Honour widows that are widows indeed.

Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You for all the things You have done for me, but I honor You, for Who You are, my Lord and King. May I always show respect for the whole family of God, as I know that is one way I can honor You. Help me to be sensitive and respectful to all people, no matter what position they hold. Lord, deliver Your people from all prejudice and disrespect for one another. May we obey Your Word that tells us to prefer and honor one another, as brothers and sisters in the Lord. May we also be especially kind toward those who are in occupations in the service sector and may we all serve one another. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

These verses from Proverbs are the cry of Agur's heart, asking God to cleanse him from all vanity and lies and also, for God to just supply him with his basic needs, as he does not want to be poor, nor does he want to be rich. Verse 7 records the prayer of a man who is just asking for two things before he dies. The kind of prayer that he is praying is certainly one that is pleasing to God, as Agur wants to have a pure heart, free of pride and deceit. This man knew how to pray, as the Bible says those who observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
Jonah 2:8: They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
In verse 8 of Proverbs 30, after this man makes his first request of being free from lies and vanity, he then states his second request. He asks not to be poor, nor rich. There are certain temptations that come with both wealth and poverty. The greatest danger of wealth is pride, while poverty brings desperation. The other dangers of wealth and abundance, besides pride, are the temptations of becoming full and forgetting God; playing God by abusing the power that comes with money; and being so distracted with things, one has no time for God. Lust and materialism can also become temptations because of having a lot of money.
The temptations that come with poverty are stealing, self-pity, fear, discouragement and hopelessness, to name a few. People who are poor and do not know God, resort to many things to try and meet their needs. They are tempted to steal or gamble or lie to get extra funds. Poverty is like a black cloud hanging over them which causes depression and fear. Women will sometimes even sell their own bodies to make ends meet.
Poverty is definitely a curse and God instructed His people not to oppress the poor, as they already had enough trouble. The Bible even tells us that if we hire someone to work for us who is poor, we should give them their wages that same day. Since they are poor, they have their heart set on receiving their pay right away, as it usually goes for their daily provision. Deuteronomy 24:15 says it is sinful for us if we withhold their wages until a later time. If we do that, they may pray unto God about our treatment of them.
Deuteronomy 24:14-15:14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates:15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.
Saint Paul, in the New Testament, said he had learned to be content in whatever state he found himself. It mattered not if he was abounding, and had plenty, or if he was abased and suffered lack. He learned to trust God and rely on Him to meet every need in his life. This is similar to the prayer of Agur, as he prayed not to have too little or too much. God wants us to trust Him and not be fearful, as God promises us that He will always take care of our basic needs.

Forgive me when I have been wasteful or careless and help me to be a good steward over all that You have entrusted to me. Lord, may I be as the Apostle Paul -- content with a little or a lot. I lean on Your strength to overcome all situations I face, and I am confident that I shall have the victory in Christ's name. Amen.

So many times we pray for things as if we don't already have them. If Jesus had the fruit of the spirit and so much more, and we have accepted Christ as our Lord and savor, don't we have everything he had. For example so many pray for wisdom or a increase in knowledge but if you abide in Christ and have a real intimate relation this prayer in not necessary. You have the ultimate knowledge and wisdom because Christ is wisdom. Just trust in him fully and watch him supply all your needs.

In verse 25 we are told that if we allow men to intimidate us, or cause us to be afraid, it will surely bring a snare upon us. We must put our trust and faith in the Lord, as He is ultimately the One who keeps us safe. Any Christian that will cry out in faith unto God in his day of trouble, will find the Lord on his side. If God be for us, can any man be against us? God is the final authority in all things.

These verses from Proverbs tell us how those with bad characteristics like anger, pride and thievery stir up strife and will be brought low, while men of humility will come to honor. Those who harbor anger in their hearts will also have other things that will cause them to abound in their own transgressions. Uncontrolled anger is a form of pride, and pride breeds many other woes. An angry man will stir up strife, because he will vent his anger on others, thus causing dissension. Some people think that because they are just angry at one person, that anger is not that bad; however, a spirit of anger is not always selective. People who are angry at one person will find that the anger they embrace toward one, will spill over to others. That is why we must resist all uncontrolled anger. We must ask the Lord to cleanse us from this evil sin.
Verse 23 talks about pride, another deadly sin. If we yield to this one, we will be brought down from our lofty place, as the Bible says "a haughty spirit goes before a fall."
Proverbs 16:18: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 18:12: Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 15:33: The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
The Lord looks for those who have a heart attitude that is humble and contrite and to those who respect the Word of God. Those are the ones who will receive His blessings and will be brought to honor.
Isaiah 66:2: For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Jesus in the New Testament told us the same thing - the way up in the kingdom of God is down. Those who are great in God's kingdom are those who become a servant to all.
Matthew 23:11-12:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
James 4:6-7 & 10: 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
The Bible tells us that God resists those who are proud, but to the humble soul, He will give grace. Also, the way to overcome when the devil attacks us, is to first submit ourselves to God; then we must resist the devil, and when we do, we are guaranteed that he will flee. How do we resist the devil? We must quote the Word of God in faith that pertains to our problem, and then verbally command the enemy to leave. The Bible says, "he will flee," not maybe he will flee. The devil will flee!
Proverbs 29:24 states that a man who partners with a thief really does not care about his own life, for he knows the consequences and does it anyway. The accomplice of a thief is his own enemy. A thief will threaten an accomplice, because of what they know, and he will make them swear, they will not tell on them. Out of fear under such an oath, he dares not testify. This is a world of deceit, and in time, it will come down.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You, asking that You deliver me from all pride and anger. I truly want to be like Jesus, who was meek and lowly. Father, help me to remain humble and always be willing to assume the place of a servant. May I always be sensitive to the needs of others and look for ways to help them. I am reminded in Your Word that we are told, by love, we are to serve one another. Fill me with Your love, so that I might love those around me and serve them as You would. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Proverbs 29:22-24 (AMP):22 A man of wrath stirs up strife, and a man given to anger commits and causes much transgression.23 A man's pride will bring him low, but he who is of a humble spirit will obtain honor.24 Whoever is partner with a thief hates his own life; he falls under the curse (pronounced upon him who knows who the thief is) but discloses nothing.
Thoughts for the Day
These verses from Proverbs tell us how those with bad characteristics like anger, pride and thievery stir up strife and will be brought low, while men of humility will come to honor. Those who harbor anger in their hearts will also have other things that will cause them to abound in their own transgressions. Uncontrolled anger is a form of pride, and pride breeds many other woes. An angry man will stir up strife, because he will vent his anger on others, thus causing dissension. Some people think that because they are just angry at one person, that anger is not that bad; however, a spirit of anger is not always selective. People who are angry at one person will find that the anger they embrace toward one, will spill over to others. That is why we must resist all uncontrolled anger. We must ask the Lord to cleanse us from this evil sin.
Verse 23 talks about pride, another deadly sin. If we yield to this one, we will be brought down from our lofty place, as the Bible says "a haughty spirit goes before a fall."
Proverbs 16:18: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 18:12: Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
Proverbs 15:33: The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
The Lord looks for those who have a heart attitude that is humble and contrite and to those who respect the Word of God. Those are the ones who will receive His blessings and will be brought to honor.
Isaiah 66:2: For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.
Jesus in the New Testament told us the same thing - the way up in the kingdom of God is down. Those who are great in God's kingdom are those who become a servant to all.
