This set of verses in Proverbs warns us to be careful when evaluating good and evil, because if we support and reward an evil cause it will bring evil back upon us. We are also told to avoid strife and contention, as a wise man will seek peace and unity. Verse 13 has a strong admonition for us to never reward evil for good. This could come in many forms. If someone is doing a good work and another, who is jealous comes along, and does evil to that person, they are inviting evil in their own house as the Bible says we reap what we sow.
Galatians 6:7: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."
Isaiah 5:20-24:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!22 Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:23 Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!24 Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.
Verse 15 tells us that it is an abomination to God to justify the wicked. In the same way, it is also evil to condemn the righteous. People who make fun of those who are doing godly works are opening a door for evil to come into their own lives. We are told not only to do good deeds ourselves, but to help those who are doing good works. We must be very careful about coming against anything that is good and righteous, lest we commit something that is an abomination to God. We should repent if we have been guilty of doing this, so that we do not come under the curse of evil resting on our own house.
Verse 14 also tells us to resist quarreling and contention with others. This verse describes how strife can start with just small unkind words and end up in a bitter quarrel, just as a small crack in a dam can eventually lead to the whole dam breaking. We are told to stop contention. How do we do this? One way is that we can learn to keep our mouth shut and not speak things that trigger quarrels with others. Another way is to stay humble before others as the Bible says contention comes only by pride.
Proverbs 13:10: "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."
If we are willing to take an humble position and keep a proper attitude toward those we disagree with, we can avoid contention. The Bible says this is using wisdom. Dear Heavenly Father, I am thankful for the wonderful ways in which You take care of me. I do appreciate Your watchcare over my family and friends. May I be humble when I am tested in this way and trust You to defend me instead of getting into contention with others. Lord, bless those who are reading this today and strengthen them to do Your will. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

This set of verses in Proverbs opens by comparing one distinct quality that sets the wise man apart from a fool. We tend to think of a wise person as one having great brains and the ability to understand difficult and lofty concepts. While these are true qualities of wisdom, there is more to wisdom than merely understanding something conceptually. True wisdom is something that any of us can attain if we are willing to humble ourselves and recognize that wisdom, like all great things of God, begins in lowliness and humility. This is comforting to me. I may not be the wisest or smartest person in the world, but I know that if I am willing to humble myself when I am reproved, it will make me wiser. Therefore it is possible to grow in wisdom. None of us have to be stuck in our own foolishness. When we are corrected our natural inclination is to want to defend ourselves. It takes wisdom from above to hold our tongue and receive correction in a humble spirit. Words of reproof may come as a "lash" and bring much pain to us, but if we are wise, we will receive it with thanksgiving, for it is an opportunity to be cleansed of sin.
Proverbs 9:8-9: "Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning."
Proverbs 14:16: "A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident."
On the other hand, just as it is possible to grow in wisdom, it is also possible to grow in foolishness. This is a sobering and fearful thought! If humbling ourselves when we are corrected is a characteristic of wisdom, then defending ourselves in pride must be a characteristic of foolishness! In fact, that is exactly what these verses are stating. A wise man will receive one reproof and take it to heart, while a fool might be lashed all day long and still never change his ways. Verse 11 goes on to say that if we are bent on rebellion, a "stern and pitiless messenger" will be set against us. Why is this? Hopefully to bring us to our senses and repent and turn back to God. We see this illustrated in the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32),(Luke 15:11-32), who left his home in rebellion. He left the covering of his father and fell into the hands of the devil who eventually had him living in filth and starvation. This was a hard way for him to learn. The prodigal son had to receive many "lashes" from one who had no pity for him--the devil. Eventually, however, he was able to make the wisest decision of his life--to turn back to the loving arms of his Father.
Verse 12 says that it is better to meet an angry bear than a foolish man when he is in his folly. We know that an angry bear has the power to kill us. Yet, Solomon is saying in this verse that he would rather run into such a bear, than a fool while he is raging! While a bear might injure or kill our body, the self-confident fool in his raging possesses something even more deadly--the ability to injure and even kill our "inner man"--our soul. Foolishness and folly breed more of the same. If we are around a foolish man, we will become foolish as well, unless, we can learn from his ways. However, once a haughty, prideful spirit grips us it is a very difficult thing to get loose of; in fact, we can only be set free from such a spirit by a miracle of God. Though we cannot see it right away, we are steering the very course of our existence towards destruction. It is easier to get free of an angry bear, than a self-confident and foolish spirit that has no fear of God and the consequences of one's actions. Nothing will blind us quicker to true heavenly wisdom than thinking we are already wise and need no reproof.
"Self-confidence" in these verses might be translated as "self-righteous." This is not speaking of the confidence that God wants us to have in Christ, but rather a rebellious and "devil-may-care" kind of self-confidence that cannot stand to be corrected by anyone--especially someone that is perceived as inferior in some way. One who is gripped by this kind of foolishness will not even perceive the correction of God through his circumstances, (like the Prodigal Son) but will still persist in rebellion to the very end.
If we have been prideful of our own great wisdom, if we have been haughty towards those who have tried to correct us, if we have gotten others into trouble through our own foolishness, it is not too late to repent and humble ourselves. That is why this book of Proverbs was written. It is a warning to all of us and a guide to make us wiser. Let us receive the word of God in humility, which is able to save our very soul!
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you so much for your mercy on me when I have made wrong choices in my life, out of my own rebellion. Thank you for giving me the eyes to see my folly and repent of it and turn back to You. Lord, I ask for the grace to continue to walk in wisdom. Help me to be humble when I am corrected, and not to think of myself more highly than I ought to. Let me hear Your words when you speak to me, through whatever means you may use. Bless all of those who are struggling right now in their lives with things that are difficult. Strengthen those who are weak today, and give them a song in their heart which will be their strength. Thank you for your forgiveness and mercy! In Jesus' mighty Name, Amen.

Proverbs Day 147 (KJV):Proverbs 17:8-9(KJV): 8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
Proverbs 17:8-9(Amp): 8 A bribe is like a bright, precious stone that dazzles the eyes and affects the mind of him who gives it; (as if by magic) he prospers whichever way he turns.9 He who covers and forgives an offense seeks love, but he who repeats or harps on a matter separates even close friends.
Thoughts for the Day
These verses in Proverbs speak of moral virtues and their contrary vices, pertaining to bribes, gossip and unforgiveness. Verse 8 describes this particular gift as one that is used to bribe someone. It is like a precious stone that is intended to dazzle the eyes and mind. It appears this way not only of the one it is offered to, but also to the one who is trying to use it to gain an advantage over another. Webster's Dictionary defines a bribe as: 1.) anything, especially money, given or promised to induce a person to do something illegal or wrong. 2.) anything given or promised to induce a person to do something against his wishes.
Some people can be bought with a bribe or gift, if they do not have strong moral convictions. Bribes come as temptations. To overcome them, we must call on God to give us the strength and power to resist any offer to do anything illegal or wrong. As Christians, we not only should refuse any kind of bribes, but we should also refuse anything that we know the Lord would disapprove of. These were the instructions that God gave to His people, Israel, in the Old Testament:
Exodus 23:7-8:7 Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.8 And thou shalt take no gift: for the gift blindeth the wise, and perverteth the words of the righteous.
The Bible tells us that a bribe will blind our eyes and will twist the Word of God to try and rob us of our righteousness. The Word of God also states that judges and officers are also forbidden to take a gift from someone that would want them to judge in a certain way that would be favorable for them. Judges and police officers must be honorable men if our judicial system is to work properly. They are to stand in their offices without being a respecter of persons. They are to judge and oversee with no partiality. They must abide by the law and rule righteously according to the law and not personal preference. Because sin is abounding in the world, the devil tempts judges and policemen to judge and act unfairly toward certain people. In a Biblical judicial system all people should be treated fairly, no matter what color they are, what kind of background they come from, what religious beliefs they hold, or whether they are rich or poor.
Deuteronomy 16:18-20:18 Judges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy gates, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall judge the people with just judgment.19 Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.20 That which is altogether just shalt thou follow, that thou mayest live, and inherit the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
God is no respecter of people. He is the ultimate good and righteous judge, and He will judge all men individually for their deeds and by their standing in Christ. He will be fair, as He has access to all hidden evidence and He knows who is guilty and who is innocent. Men will not be able to lie when they come before God because knows what is in every man's heart and nothing is hidden from Him. Yes, God, the Judge of all the earth shall do what is right.
Genesis 18:25: "That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
Our other verse in Proverbs is verse 9. This verse gives us a test to let us know if we are walking in God's love. If we really do seek love, we will not only forgive an offense, but we will also cover it. We will not go about repeating the incident and especially, we will not tell the matter to the friends of the one who committed the sin. It is evil to try to break up a good friendship. We are commanded to love and pray for those who offend us and give our hurts to the Lord and allow Him to remove them, and make things right in the situation. We only give strength to a bad situation when we continue to harp on it. We must ask God to deliver us from gossip (repeating the matter) and unforgiveness (harboring the matter). We should never take up another's offense either. We should encourage people to settle their differences between themselves, and not side with either party. Certainly, we can side with what is right and Biblical. However, unless we are in a situation where we are directly involved in a disputed matter, the parties themselves should work them out according to the Word of God. We should pray and seek peace with all men, as much as lieth in us.
Romans 12:16-19:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for teaching me Your Word. Help me to always obey it as I know that You bless all who adhere to Your commandments. Forgive me when I fail You, and give me the grace to forgive those who have offended and sinned against me. Lord, help me guard my mouth, and not to repeat things that are not edifying to others. Help me to be a peacemaker. Lord, may I never be guilty of taking a bribe. Lord, may all the gifts I give to others be totally given in love, with no strings attached to them. I do not want to be guilty of expecting someone to return a favor to me because I gave to them. Help us all to live as godly examples before our friends and family. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Genesis 18:25: "That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?"
Our other verse in Proverbs is verse 9. This verse gives us a test to let us know if we are walking in God's love. If we really do seek love, we will not only forgive an offense, but we will also cover it. We will not go about repeating the incident and especially, we will not tell the matter to the friends of the one who committed the sin. It is evil to try to break up a good friendship. We are commanded to love and pray for those who offend us and give our hurts to the Lord and allow Him to remove them, and make things right in the situation. We only give strength to a bad situation when we continue to harp on it. We must ask God to deliver us from gossip (repeating the matter) and unforgiveness (harboring the matter). We should never take up another's offense either. We should encourage people to settle their differences between themselves, and not side with either party. Certainly, we can side with what is right and Biblical. However, unless we are in a situation where we are directly involved in a disputed matter, the parties themselves should work them out according to the Word of God. We should pray and seek peace with all men, as much as lieth in us.
Romans 12:16-19:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for teaching me Your Word. Help me to always obey it as I know that You bless all who adhere to Your commandments. Forgive me when I fail You, and give me the grace to forgive those who have offended and sinned against me. Lord, help me guard my mouth, and not to repeat things that are not edifying to others. Help me to be a peacemaker. Lord, may I never be guilty of taking a bribe. Lord, may all the gifts I give to others be totally given in love, with no strings attached to them. I do not want to be guilty of expecting someone to return a favor to me because I gave to them. Help us all to live as godly examples before our friends and family. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Children and grandchildren were meant to be great blessings from God. However, because of the devil's influence in the world, he attempts to destroy this blessing by alienating the children from their fathers and vice versa. God meant for our children to be a great blessing and heritage.
Psalm 127:3-5:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
A father's children were meant to bless him by being a defense to him should any enemy speak against him. Godly children will not only defend their father, but will honor him and their mother, as the Bible admonishes them to do. They will glory in having good parents and be thankful to God for their heritage. Many families today lack this generational blessing, as both parents and children have broken God's laws and do not have a godly relationship with each other.
For children to receive this generational blessing they must begin by honoring their parents. This is one of the Ten Commandments. This commandment comes with a promise. If children obey their parents they are promised long life. One of the reasons for this, is when children respect their parent's wisdom and experience and they obey them, they will be protected from the harm that comes to children who rebel.
Exodus 20:12: "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee."Throughout the Bible, the righteous declare that their purpose is to declare the glory of God to the next generation.
"Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come" (Psalm 71:18 NIV).
"One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts" (Psalm 145:4 KJV).
From these, and many other scriptures, we can see clearly that each generation is called to build on the foundation left by the previous generation. Therefore, all generations are in great need of each other to complete the work that God has called His corporate Body to fulfill. Fathers and mothers need to be those godly examples to their children so that the torch of God's Word will be passed down to them, and they in turn will pass it on to their children.

The book of Proverbs is known for its many wise statements. In this verse we are told that having a little to eat in a household of peace, is better than feasting in a household of strife. Even eating the finest food does not compensate for a turbulent atmosphere. It is much better to just satisfy one's hunger and have a quiet and pleasant home, than arguing continually with plenty to eat. Many marriages are suffering today because both mates are working to obtain the "American Dream." This may include a large home, autos, food, clothing, vacations, college education for the kids, etc. While all these things are good, if families sacrifice their time together to obtain these things, they will lost what is really important. Parents should pray and ask the Lord what He desires for them to have. Perhaps a smaller home, one car, less clothing, etc. would be the answer to offset the stress that comes with trying to maintain more than one is able.
Love and peace in a home are more important than the material things in a home. The Bible tells us how to have a happy home. Today many families are hurting because they have not learned how to love and serve one another. When mates are selfish it will result in bickering over things. The Bible instructs us to avoid this kind of railing.
1 Peter 3:8-12:8 Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.10 For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:11 Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
Christian husbands and wives should first of all, love one another as brothers and sisters in Christ. We are called to love one another with God's kind of love, not what the world calls "love" as most of the time it is only lust.
1 John 4:7-16:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.12 No man hath seen God at any time. The kind of love that is mentioned here is not the kind of love that is in the world. God's love is selfless. He gave up His Son that we might live. In Greek there are three words for love:

(2) Love of high ideals, called "phileo" (our city of Philadelphia is named for this brotherly love).
(3) Love of physical passion, called "eros" (from which our word "erotic" comes).
Since the original text of the New Testament was written in Greek, we know the verse above is referring to "agape" love and not the other two. This is evident when we research the Greek renderings.
Yes, it is better to have less and have God's love in our lives, as His love will see us through any material lack. He promises us as His children, that He will always take care of us and supply our daily needs of food and clothing. Let us be content with what we have, then the Lord can bless us with more.
Hebrews 13:5: "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, I am thankful for all that you have provided for me. Help me not to be stressful, when I have need of certain things and I do not see how they will be supplied. My trust is in You and I know that You will never leave me nor forsake me. Lord, I am grateful for a peaceful home. Fill all who visit our home with Your peace. Let us serve those that You send to our house. Lord, I pray for marriages that are hurting because of so much stress. Show them the changes that they need to make, and give them the grace to make them. May Your peace permeate the whole body of Christ as You have intended. I ask this in Your name. Amen.

The book of Proverbs continually stresses that having God in our daily lives and activities will make a difference in our destiny. This verse, in essence, tells us that when we seek God and we leave the outcome of all circumstances to Him; He will bring about the results that are right and just for us and others.
In modern understanding a "lot" was an object used to decide a matter by chance, a number of these being placed in a container. The lots themselves varied in size, shape or color and were drawn or cast out at random to determine the choice in question. In the Bible world of the Old Testament, this method of deciding portentous questions was used widely. Our modern day equivalent would be that of "drawing straws." This is done by taking a number of small straws of different lengths of which are lined up even on the top while the bottom part of the straws are covered from sight usually in someone's hand. There is a straw for each person who will be in the pool for selection. All parties decide before the drawing that the one who gets the shortest or longest straw will be the one chosen for a certain task. After predetermining whether it will be the longest or shortest straw, all then leave the drawing to chance which makes it fair. Those participating cannot complain as this kind of selection was not done by a vote. The same is true with the "lot."
Proverbs 18:18: "The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty."
God commanded the Israelites to use the means of the "lot" to divide the promised land among the tribes of Israel. This would be a fair way, as some of the tribes might complain if they felt the distribution was done in favor of one tribe over another. Since all the land was not identical, this was a just way to distribute it, and they trusted that God was in the disposing of it.
Numbers 26:55-56: 55 Notwithstanding the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit.56 According to the lot shall the possession thereof be divided between many and few.
Proverbs 16:33 states that the lots were all cast into the lap. The one lot that was designated in advance to be the chosen one would then be acknowledged. Because all the men trusted God, they felt that the one who was selected was God's choice. And truly it was, as God is behind the scenes working in every life that is committed unto Him. He is judging and arranging events in our lives when we belong to Him, and though we may think it was an accident should we be chosen by lot, God is the one who puts one up and takes another down. He is the judge.

I thank you that You are guiding me and directing me in all of my ways. Lord, when You choose me to do anything for You, please empower me and give me the grace to accomplish it. I know that my life is planned by You and that each person who comes into it, is sent by You, when I am committed to Your will. May I grow from those encounters and be a blessing to them. In the book of Proverbs we find many profound truths, that when applied to our lives, will bring great victories. This verse about anger is one such truth. To experience anger is not sinful, as the Bible says that God Himself is angry about certain things. Anger is an emotion that every human being experiences at times. In fact, we should be angry when we see injustice and ill treatment toward human beings. God is angry when He sees the things that sinful people commit, that bring sorrow and tragedy to others who are innocent. He never wanted humans to kill one another or to exploit one another. The sin is not in experiencing anger, but rather in how we deal with it. We can turn our anger into prayer, which in turn can change the things we see that are wrong.
If we allow our anger to turn into vindictiveness and we practice the same kind of evil that was sent our way, then we become just as guilty as the one who we are angry at. We are told in scripture that we are to overcome evil with good and not to render evil for evil.
Romans 12:18-21:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Many domestic quarrels could be avoided if each spouse practiced the admonition in today's Proverb. So many couples just allow their emotions to rule them. Then they begin to rail at each other with hurtful words, that if continued, will eventually destroy their marriages. So what should we do when we become angry at an injustice? First, we should be willing to examine our own heart as to why we are reacting with such anger ourselves. Are we justified in being angry or are we prideful and partially to blame for what is happening? We should go to God in prayer and take our anger to Him and ask Him how we are to deal with the situation. We must be just as willing for the Lord to change us, as change the one we are angry at. Unforgiveness and bitterness are sins just as deadly, if not deadlier, than some of the more common sins. We must deal with our anger quickly so that it does not turn into a bitter root of unforgiveness. This sin can block our blessings and destroy us. We should deal with anger the same day we experience it.
Ephesians 4:26-27: "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil."

God has asked us, His children, to love our enemies and to forgive those who have trespassed against us. This is an impossible thing to do without God's grace. I cannot love my enemies and neither can you, without the grace of God to do it. We have to call on God to do this impossible thing. However, God never asks us to do something that we cannot do. But to do this, we must be endued with power through the Holy Spirit. Only God's kind of love is sufficient for the task. Proverbs 16:32 says that to be slow to anger is better than the mighty. Self control (temperance) is a virtue and a fruit of the Spirit that we must cultivate if we are to do any mighty works for God. We must be able to control our temper, as this is part of controlling our spirit. When we are able to do this, the Bible says it is better than taking a whole city. When a man can rule his own life through the power of the Holy Spirit, then he is fit to rule a city.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for being patient with me in times past, when I know my sins caused you grief and anger. Help me to have the same kind of patience and love toward those who cause me to be angry. Lord, I choose to love them, and thank you for your power to demonstrate that love. Father, I do forgive all who would sin against me and I ask You to bless them with the knowledge of Your love and truth. Lord, I pray especially for all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. In the book of Proverbs we find many profound truths, that when applied to our lives, will bring great victories. This verse about anger is one such truth. To experience anger is not sinful, as the Bible says that God Himself is angry about certain things. Anger is an emotion that every human being experiences at times. In fact, we should be angry when we see injustice and ill treatment toward human beings. God is angry when He sees the things that sinful people commit, that bring sorrow and tragedy to others who are innocent. He never wanted humans to kill one another or to exploit one another. The sin is not in experiencing anger, but rather in how we deal with it. We can turn our anger into prayer, which in turn can change the things we see that are wrong.
If we allow our anger to turn into vindictiveness and we practice the same kind of evil that was sent our way, then we become just as guilty as the one who we are angry at. We are told in scripture that we are to overcome evil with good and not to render evil for evil.
Romans 12:18-21:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Many domestic quarrels could be avoided if each spouse practiced the admonition in today's Proverb. So many couples just allow their emotions to rule them. Then they begin to rail at each other with hurtful words, that if continued, will eventually destroy their marriages. So what should we do when we become angry at an injustice? First, we should be willing to examine our own heart as to why we are reacting with such anger ourselves. Are we justified in being angry or are we prideful and partially to blame for what is happening? We should go to God in prayer and take our anger to Him and ask Him how we are to deal with the situation. We must be just as willing for the Lord to change us, as change the one we are angry at. Unforgiveness and bitterness are sins just as deadly, if not deadlier, than some of the more common sins. We must deal with our anger quickly so that it does not turn into a bitter root of unforgiveness. This sin can block our blessings and destroy us. We should deal with anger the same day we experience it.
Ephesians 4:26-27: "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Neither give place to the devil."
1 Peter 3:8-9: "Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing."

God has asked us, His children, to love our enemies and to forgive those who have trespassed against us. This is an impossible thing to do without God's grace. I cannot love my enemies and neither can you, without the grace of God to do it. We have to call on God to do this impossible thing. However, God never asks us to do something that we cannot do. But to do this, we must be endued with power through the Holy Spirit. Only God's kind of love is sufficient for the task. When a man reaches his senior years and he is a righteous man of God, then he has a crown of wisdom and experience that younger men do not possess. As men age, they become more experienced in many things. This experience can lead to wisdom, if they observe from the successes and failures of those around them (as well as their own) and learn from it. Proverbs records another scripture that says the same thing.
Proverbs 20:29 (Amp): "The glory of young men is their strength, and the beauty of old men is the gray head (suggesting wisdom and experience)."
Many older men and women may have a lot of experience; however, not all of them have godly wisdom. Psalm 92:12-14: 12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God.14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.Another wonderful promise for older people who might be faint and have no strength, is found in the book of Isaiah.
Isaiah 40:29-31:29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
This promise tells us that if we wait upon the Lord and seek Him, He will renew our strength and we shall run and not be weary and we shall walk and not faint. Even the youth who do not know God will be weary and faint, and the young men without God shall fall. What a wonderful promise that we can run and not be weary and walk and not faint when we follow the Lord's leading in all we do. We can look at the life of Moses and see how God blessed his later years with good health and vitality.
Deuteronomy 34:7: "And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated."
As God's children, our later years should really be "golden years." We should be healthy and strong and able to do the will of God until we have completed our course on earth. When our job or assignment is complete, then and only then, is it time for us to leave this earth and go to heaven. There are many promises in the Word of God that promise us long life. The devil is the one who tries to cut men's lives and ministries short. We must contend by faith, for God's promise of long life. It is God's will that we live long and productive lives, and that we leave a godly inheritance for those that follow us.

These verses in the book of Proverbs record some principles of living. The first one in verse 26 is the need for food will urge a man to work. God established this principle in Genesis, that a man must work for his bread (food).
Genesis 3:19: "In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."
Because some men are lazy and idle, it takes hunger to drive them to work so that they can eat. In the New Testament we find this same principle.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-12:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
Verse 27 of our study verses in Proverbs talks about ungodly men who dig up evil and mischief and then spread what they find. Their lips are like a wild fire that scorches everything in front of it. Our culture has been guilty of this kind of conduct as it seems that our society enjoys finding dirt on people and spreading it through all the gossip channels -- news media, books, magazines, T.V. programs, etc. As Christians, we should not be a part of writing exposés and spreading gossip. Only the Lord knows the real truth about the many things that people share. Many people who "tell all," tell it from a slanted view point and out of their own hurt and bitterness. We are told to have charity (love) among us and love covers sins, not exposes them.
1 Peter 4:8: "And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins."
Verse 28 tells us that a perverse man sows strife. Through his gossip and whispering, he will even separate close friends. As Christians we should not listen to gossip, as that makes us a party to it. If the person that is being talked about is not there to defend himself, it is not a just and fair conversation. This especially applies to elders or ministers, as the devil is always trying to bring them down. If there is just cause for a true accusation, then this should come in the mouth of two or three witnesses and not by one disgruntled person who has an offense against someone. If we listen to an accusation against an elder without two or three witnesses, we are also guilty before God of gossip and slander ourselves.
1 Timothy 5:19: "Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses."
Verses 29 and 30 talks of a covetous and violent man who entices his neighbor to sin. Evil men are never content to just sin and do wicked things alone; they always try to influence others to sin with them. This kind of person is described in verse 30. He shuts his eyes and day dreams as to how he can devise his evil plans. He then begins to move his lips in a manner that will bring about his plans. Evil begins with a thought, then the thought is spoken and finally the thought becomes an evil deed. We must resist all evil thoughts and give no place to the wicked one. We can do this by keeping our mind on good things and casting down every imagination that would exalt itself against the knowledge of God.
2 Corinthians 10:5: "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity."
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you that I am well, and strong and able to work. I do appreciate the work You have called me to do. Lord, sometime I do get weary, but help me not to complain. I am most blessed to be Your child and I thank You for Your abundant blessings in my life. Many lack the blessings I have. I am grateful that I am not hungry and I do not have bombs going off above my house. Lord, I pray for my brothers and sisters in the world that are experiencing those trials. Protect them and provide for them. I will not complain of my light afflictions when I think of many in the world that do not even have the essentials of a secure home. Lord, use each of us who are Your children to reach out to those that do not have the blessings that we have. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day
There are many warnings against pride throughout the book of Proverbs. Those who become proud, by an over-exaggerated opinion of them selves, are preparing themselves for a fall. The prideful man will destroy his house by his own deeds. People who think they have "arrived" and who revel in their own accomplishments, are preparing themselves for a rude awakening according to verse 18.
Even those who think they have no need of God in their lives, will come to the end of themselves at some time and will have need of Him. God is patient and does not force His way into men's lives. In fact, The Bible says that the Holy Spirit woos and draws men unto Himself. He loves every human being and does not want any to perish. It is the will of God that all men be saved.
1 Timothy 2:3-6: 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
The biggest hindrance to men coming to God is their pride. The only way men can be saved is by humbling their hearts before God and acknowledging their need for a saviour. All men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All men need a savior. God provided a saviour by sending His only begotten son into the world to die and take our sins. Through His death, burial and resurrection we can receive eternal life.
Verse 19 tells us that it is better to be associated with the lowly and have an humble heart, than it is to have the riches of a spoil divided with the proud. We must ask the Lord to help us remain humble, as we live in an age where the spirit of pride is encouraged in our society. Humility is not weakness. In fact, true humility, reveals strength of character in a person as the truly humble person is not self assertive. A Christian who is dependent on God, and does not rely on His own strength has truly found the way to victory in his life.
Verse 20 tells us that those who deal wisely and those who heed God's Word shall find good. All those who lean on God and place their trust in Him are happy and blessed. We have access to all the resources of heaven when we humble our hearts before God and ask Him to supply all that we need.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the many blessings that are mine because I belong to You. I am most blessed. Lord, use me to bless others with the overflow of the blessings You have given me. Lord, encourage Your people today that need hope and faith. Father, remove all vestiges of pride from my heart as I desire to be truly humble before You and others. I trust You to fight my battles for me as I look to You in faith. Thank You for meeting my needs. I know You will never leave me nor forsake me. Bless all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. Amen.

1 Timothy 2:3-6: 3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
The biggest hindrance to men coming to God is their pride. The only way men can be saved is by humbling their hearts before God and acknowledging their need for a saviour. All men have sinned and come short of the glory of God. All men need a savior. God provided a saviour by sending His only begotten son into the world to die and take our sins. Through His death, burial and resurrection we can receive eternal life.
Verse 19 tells us that it is better to be associated with the lowly and have an humble heart, than it is to have the riches of a spoil divided with the proud. We must ask the Lord to help us remain humble, as we live in an age where the spirit of pride is encouraged in our society. Humility is not weakness. In fact, true humility, reveals strength of character in a person as the truly humble person is not self assertive. A Christian who is dependent on God, and does not rely on His own strength has truly found the way to victory in his life.
Verse 20 tells us that those who deal wisely and those who heed God's Word shall find good. All those who lean on God and place their trust in Him are happy and blessed. We have access to all the resources of heaven when we humble our hearts before God and ask Him to supply all that we need.
Prayer for the Day
Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for the many blessings that are mine because I belong to You. I am most blessed. Lord, use me to bless others with the overflow of the blessings You have given me. Lord, encourage Your people today that need hope and faith. Father, remove all vestiges of pride from my heart as I desire to be truly humble before You and others. I trust You to fight my battles for me as I look to You in faith. Thank You for meeting my needs. I know You will never leave me nor forsake me. Bless all my brothers and sisters in the Lord. Amen.

Thoughts for the Day
These verses in Proverbs tell us that God's wisdom and understanding are better than having gold and silver. They also speak of the danger of embracing pride and evil. Verse 16 is a powerful statement. Those who are struggling by not having enough money might wonder if this is a true statement. We must remember that although money has a degree of power in this world, it also has its limitations. There are some things that money cannot buy. Money cannot bring healing to a fatal disease. Money cannot bring peace of mind. Money cannot buy true love. It cannot give us wise guidance. It cannot give us sweet sleep. It cannot keep us safe. It cannot buy us extra time, when death comes knocking at our door. The list could go on. On the other hand, God's understanding and wisdom can do all of these things.
Verse 17 tells us that the highway of the upright will turn aside from evil, and when we guard the way we walk in this life, it will preserve our soul. Obeying the Lord and His Word brings health to our being -- spirit, soul and body. Knowing God brings peace to our mind, in spite of what might be going on around us. None of us really know true love until we experience the love of God, and we really cannot love one another purely without Christ's love in our hearts. We are all basically selfish until we ask Christ into our hearts. His Spirit then changes us so that we can love one another with the love of God.
When we are in need of guidance He will show us the way to go. Because God knows the future, He can tell us the things to do today that will prevent us from making mistakes that would bring destruction in time. Millions of people suffer from insomnia because they do not have access to God's rest when they lie down. The Lord promises His people that they shall have sweet sleep.
Proverbs 3:24: "When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet."
God's Word also promises us that we come under His protection when we look to Him in faith. When we abide in the Lord nothing can harm us. No amount of money can buy this kind of protection. I call Psalm 91 my life insurance policy.
Psalm 91:9-11:9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
God's wisdom and understanding can even prolong our lives. When we understand the things that cause death and we depart from them we are promised long lives. When we understand that we can call on God in times of trouble and His promise is to deliver us, it will prolong our lives.

These verses in Proverbs tell us what the role of a king should be, and how a king has the authority to rule. According to verse 12 God calls it an abomination for a king or a ruler to commit wickedness. Any leader who is wicked will cause those under his rule to suffer. It is usually difficult for a wicked king to hold his position, as those around him plot as how to over throw him. On the other hand, a good and righteous leader is able to establish his rule or throne by his virtuous leadership. He finds favor with his subjects, as all people respond positively to goodness. People honor a good king as his righteousness will affect the whole land.
Verse 13 tell us that from the king's perspective, he too, appreciates righteous people around him. A good king or leader delights in the kind and righteous words that he hears from his subjects, and he loves those who speak correctly. Leaders favor those who speak good words of wisdom. These are the kind of people who will be chosen to help them rule. Those who rebel against the king's authority will bring the king's wrath against themselves. According to verse 14 it is not wise to stir the wrath of a king, as a man who does this could even be in danger of losing his life. If a man hears the king is angry with him, it would come as a message of death. It would be wise for this man to humble himself and try to pacify the king's anger.
According to verse 15 a wise man should seek to please the king, as in doing so, he will find that the king's countenance will reflect a smile upon him. He will then find favor with the king that will be like a cloud that brings the spring rain. Looking at these verses, we can also apply a spiritual application to them. Since Jesus is our king, we should strive to please Him and not rebel against Him and in doing so, we will find favor with God. The way we pacify our King, is to approach Him with an humble attitude and a repentive heart if we have sinned. When we do this, He will forgive us and accept us and show us His favor.

Dear Heavenly Father, I honor you as my King and Lord, I submit my myself to you to do Your will. Thank you, for Your love for me. I am grateful that you are a loving and forgiving God. I want to thank You also for the abundant blessings that You have given me. One of those blessings is that I can lay my head down each night and enjoy sweet sleep, and at times, You even speak to me in my dreams. It is such a blessing to have Your love, peace and joy. No amount of money can buy these blessings. I just want to say a special thanks for these gifts. Bless my brothers and sisters with Your love and guidance and lead us all into more truth. I ask this in Jesus name. Amen.

Proverbs Day 132 (KJV):Proverbs 16:11(KJV): "A just weight and balance are the Lord's: all the weights of the bag are his work."Proverbs 16:11(Amp): "A just balance or scales are the Lord's; all the weights of the bag are His work (established on His eternal principles)."
Thoughts for the Day
This verse in Proverbs deals with dishonesty. In Bible days much of the trade was done by weighing items on a pair of scales. While the item to be purchased was placed on one of the trays, the other tray held a corresponding weight and when the scales were balanced the amount could be determined. Since the item was sold by quantity, and the price was determined by weight, a fair and equitable price was established. However, just as we have crooks today, there were traders who tampered with the weights, thus causing the customer to pay for more than they were actually getting. The weights were unjust, which resulted in a false balance or standard. The Lord says that a false balance is an abomination to Him because it is cheating. Our God is a just God, so He loves justice and equity. He wants all of His children to be fair and just too, and never cheat each other in any way.
A pair of scales has always been representative of balance, justice and equity. The above verse in Proverbs tells us that when the balance is false it becomes sinful. Today many things have become "out-of-balance" in regard to the true teachings of the Bible; therefore, they too have become sinful in the eyes of God. Many people take only portions of God's Word and build them into doctrines without considering other portions that bring balance to the ones they are propagating. This always results in error as they have taken extreme views of God's Word. A great deal of division in the body of Christ is due to this very problem.
Those outside of the body of Christ are also affected as they see things within the church that should not exist and therefore want no part of Christianity because of these extremes. When people get out-of-balance in certain areas, it turns others away from Jesus instead of bringing them to Jesus. We have all been guilty of this at times, as it is not always easy to walk in perfect balance with the Lord.
However, the Holy Spirit's desire is that we learn this balanced walk, as it is the only way we will come into perfection. When the Holy Spirit is doing something new, the pendulum sometimes does swing rather far in one direction as people are so eager to hear and practice new truths. However, after these are learned it is important that they swing back into balance or else they will end up in extremes that will bring discord into their lives.
Jesus is the Rock. He is solid and stable and will not change. For this reason we can trust Him and believe the Words He has spoken to us. If He said it, then that settles it. It is truth because He cannot lie. If He said it and we believe it, then faith in His Word will produce those things that are promised to us in the Bible. Knowing only portions of the Word can cause us to become imbalanced. We must seek to know the whole truth and be completely surrendered to the will of God for us to be victorious and successful Christians. Stressing one portion of God's Word will invariably produce prayer failures. This is the reason for many "faith" failures today. It is not so much people's lack of faith that fails to produce the answers they are seeking, but their failure to apply other portions of God's Word.

"Father, we come to You in Jesus' most precious name, thanking You for Your love for us. Lord, You see the areas in our lives that are not in balance. We ask that You reveal those to us and help us to walk in the path of righteousness and Your holy balance. Deliver us from error and all that is an abomination to You. Heal us today spirit, soul and body so that we might serve You by walking in a victorious Christian life. Let our lights shine so that truly others might see Your love in us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen."

These verses in Proverbs tell us that having a little money with righteousness, is better than having great wealth with injustice. There are other scriptures that tell us the same thing.

We must have the revelation in our hearts of the greatness of God. When any Christian calls on God, he has access to all that God has; however, faith is the way that we must come to receive it. Money may solve some of our problems for the moment. However, money cannot buy peace of mind, heal a fatal disease, heal a broken relationship, remove tormenting fear, bring us love, or many of the other things that come from the hand of God. If we need money, God can bring that too. Money is not evil, only the "love" of it. When we chase after money, and it consumes our time and energy and God is left out of our lives, then money and mammon have become our god.
Verse 9 of Proverbs 16 tells us that although we may make our plans, if we are committed to God, He is the one who will direct our steps and make them sure. When we are seeking the Lord about anything, we must be willing to do what the Lord tells us to do in that circumstance. When we come to the place that it does not matter what we do, as long as it is what the Lord wants us to do, it frees the Lord to intervene in our lives to overcome the threatening circumstances we are facing. He is just waiting for us to say, "Thy will be done."
Verse 10 has an admonition for those who are kings and those who are in positions of authority. They are warned not to sin by making unrighteous judgments, as they can use their place of authority to rule unrighteously, thus hurting those under their rule. If God has placed a man in a place of authority, He desires to give him divine guidance and instructions. Many of our presidents in the USA over the years have sought God for guidance, as they have felt the weight of their decisions that affect the whole world. I believe that God answered many of their prayers, as is evidenced in the outcome of many of the crises that our nation has faced. Of course, the decisions made by our leaders that have left God out have affected us adversely as well. This is true in other countries, too.
Any leader who calls on God will find Him available to help with those those decisions that affect the lives under them. A good leader will not use or exploit those under his rulership, but rather will have a concern for them and want to help and protect them. We should pray for the kings, presidents and rulers in this world as we are told to do in scripture. Today, many people are trying to make changes in their nations in the wrong way. Anarchy and rebellion are destructive, and not the way that God would have us to change the world. We are to rule through prayer and obedience to God's Word. God then will fight our battles and give us the victory His way.

Verse 9 of Proverbs 16 tells us that although we may make our plans, if we are committed to God, He is the one who will direct our steps and make them sure. When we are seeking the Lord about anything, we must be willing to do what the Lord tells us to do in that circumstance. When we come to the place that it does not matter what we do, as long as it is what the Lord wants us to do, it frees the Lord to intervene in our lives to overcome the threatening circumstances we are facing. He is just waiting for us to say, "Thy will be done."
Verse 10 has an admonition for those who are kings and those who are in positions of authority. They are warned not to sin by making unrighteous judgments, as they can use their place of authority to rule unrighteously, thus hurting those under their rule. If God has placed a man in a place of authority, He desires to give him divine guidance and instructions. Many of our presidents in the USA over the years have sought God for guidance, as they have felt the weight of their decisions that affect the whole world. I believe that God answered many of their prayers, as is evidenced in the outcome of many of the crises that our nation has faced. Of course, the decisions made by our leaders that have left God out have affected us adversely as well. This is true in other countries, too.
Any leader who calls on God will find Him available to help with those those decisions that affect the lives under them. A good leader will not use or exploit those under his rulership, but rather will have a concern for them and want to help and protect them. We should pray for the kings, presidents and rulers in this world as we are told to do in scripture. Today, many people are trying to make changes in their nations in the wrong way. Anarchy and rebellion are destructive, and not the way that God would have us to change the world. We are to rule through prayer and obedience to God's Word. God then will fight our battles and give us the victory His way.
1 Timothy 2:1-5:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank You for Your many blessings that You send my way each day. Thank You for the many friends that You have sent into my life. Lord, they are priceless treasures. Bless them all today. I want my life to be what You would have to be. Lord, I want You to be satisfied with me, so remove those things that are not pleasing to You. Thank you for Your daily provision. I know that when I have You, that's enough. You will take care of all the things that concern me and that I have need of. We can tell what is in a person's heart by their countenance as the face most of the time reflects the attitude of the soul. People who are joyful bring joy to others. Also, the one who brings a good report and shares good news, will also benefit by experiencing a health benefit. When the scriptures talk about making the bones fat or speaks of health in the marrow of the bones, it is referring to a healthy immune system that produces healthy blood. The Bible also says that the life is in the blood. Therefore, when we keep a joyful and positive attitude it helps to keep us healthy.

Proverbs Day 126 (KJV):Proverbs 15:28-29(KJV):28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
Thoughts for the Day
The book of Proverbs continues to compare the righteous and the wicked. We notice in verse 28 that the righteous are wise, in that they are not quick to speak, but rather, they ponder and think about how they should answer a person. The wicked just allow all the evil that is in their heart to pour out of their mouth. The evil things that they say have been stored in their hearts. We can store up good things in our hearts or we can allow the devil to put his evil ideas in our hearts. It is not a sin to have an evil thought. An evil thought that comes to our mind is simply the devil tempting us to act upon that thought that stems from our sinful nature.
A thought only becomes sin if we meditate on it, and continue to think on it, until we actually act on it in our heart, and then it manifests in our actions. The evil thought is like a seed that is planted in the ground. If we water it with our thoughts and attention, it will eventually sprout and come up and go on to bear fruit. That is why it is so important that we renounce all evil thoughts as soon as we are aware of them in our mind. We must not dwell on it, as that is how the devil gets us to sin. We must submit our minds to the Lord and resist the devil, and the Bible says that he will flee.
James 4:7-8: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
The way that we can become victorious over evil tormenting thoughts is to first submit to God. We must give our mind to the Lord and ask Him to cleanse our heart from all evil. Then, we must rebuke the devil by using the Word of God against him. Then, as we draw close to God, He will draw close to us. However, we must cleanse our hands of all evil deeds. This speaks of putting evil away from us. We must cut off Satan's supply line to us. For example, if we want to be free of evil, lustful thoughts, then we cannot feed our minds with pornography, x-rated movies, lustful novels, etc. We must get rid of the things that feed the evil thoughts and replace those things with the Word of God.
We cannot be double minded about our decision, that is, we cannot turn away from temptation one day, and then the next day yield to it again. We must make up our minds that we want to be free from something and then be single minded about it. When we choose to do what is right, then the Holy Spirit will empower us to keep that commitment, if we sincerely want to be free. God will give us the power to break the bondage of sin, if we ask, with a submitted heart before Him.
The mind is the battle ground, and to win our victory over sin, we must yield to God. If we allow evil thoughts to drop into our heart, then we will be guilty of sin, even if we do not actually commit the deed. Jesus spoke of this in the New Testament.
Matthew 5:27-28: "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
If we resist the devil the moment we have an evil thought, then we are not guilty of sin. This is only temptation. Verse 29 in our study verses tells us that the Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayers of the righteous. If we call on Him when we are tempted, He will surely be close to us, to help us overcome the enemy of our souls. The Lord is compassionate, and even when we have been weak and have fallen back into sin, He will come and save us if we call on Him. We must not allow the devil to talk us out of coming back to the Lord when we have fallen down. We should immediately repent, get up, receive our forgiveness, and go on with the Lord. The devil will seek to keep us down and out of fellowship with the Father. The devil is cruel; he first tempts us and gets us to sin, and then after we have fallen, he whispers that God is mad at us, so we should not try to communicate with Him. We must realize that even when we fail, God is still on our side. We should run to Him, not away from Him, when we fall into sin. He loves us and his mercy endures forever.
Psalm 32:5: "I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah."
1 John 1:9: "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

May Your love manifest in the body of Christ, so that we truly love one another and serve one another. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

How many of you actually read your bible everyday. I mean read a verse and really feed on it. God wants us in our word day and night and hide it in our hearts. Not just pick up the bible just on Sunday or maybe during the week at bible study. So I challenge you today. Give God at least 15 minutes a day reading his word. Watch how it change your life.

The book of Proverbs continues with its observations. Verse 22 states that for any purposes or projects to be accomplished, good counsel is a must. In fact in larger projects, a multitude of counselors will get it done, as opposed to one man. Team work is vital for a large vision to be accomplished. A good counselor is one who weighs out the pros and cons of any situation and suggests the best way to accomplish something, or even to correct something, if it is needed. With a multitude of many counselors, the goals and purposes will not be frustrated, but will be completed because of good help. Each department will have good suggestions to get the thing established.
These verses are not referring to our modern-day counselors who help people with marriage or financial problems, as most people would not need a multitude of counselors to get their personal problems solved. However, one godly, Christian counselor who bases their advice on the Word of God could help immensely. The key for getting our problems solved is to find out what the Word of God says about our situation, and then apply it to our lives. Since God's Word never fails, we are assured of solving any problem and overcoming it. With God's Word and His strength, the Bible says we can do all things.
Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."
We should be very careful in regard to seeking advice or counsel. We should always pray diligently to find the right person for our guidance. Worldly counselors could actually hurt a believer's walk with God, as their advice is not based on the Word of God. Many counselors in the world, will actually encourage selfishness in the believer, as humanism teaches a person to look out for themselves first. Certainly, we should take care of ourselves, but never at the expense of violating our moral values. Verse 23 says that a man who has a good word or answer to someone's problem will receive great joy out of sharing it with them. It is always a blessing to help someone else through giving good advice that keeps the person from being destroyed or overwhelmed by their problems How good it is for the person to hear of a way out of their troubles.
Verse 24 says when we walk in the wisdom of God, it is a pathway that leads us upward, to life in Him, so that we can avoid the path to hell that takes us downward. God always wants to lift us up, while the devil is the one who wants to bring us down. The Lord desires us to avoid the traps and snares of the devil so that we can walk in the things of God and be blessed.

Dear Father God, I am ever so grateful to have access to a reservoir of wisdom, counsel, and guidance in knowing You. I know when I have a problem I can ask You how to solve it, and You always have the perfect answer. Thank you for sending my answers in many different ways, and through many different people. I have been very blessed by the family of God, as they have reached out to help us in so many ways. I do appreciate the prayers of Your people. I also thank you for speaking to people to help us financially in this ministry. Lord, bless each person back in the form of their need. I thank You for my brothers and sisters in Christ. This verse in Proverbs states that bad circumstances do not have to produce a bad attitude in a person. Difficult circumstances do not have to produce an evil disposition. We can choose how we are going to react to our circumstances. Some people allow their circumstances to rule them, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to rule them. Some people, all the days of their lives, will experience evil days because they never have learned to overcome the devil's attacks of evil, fear, worry and depression. When we accept Christ as our savior, one of the gifts we receive from the Lord is the gift of joy. The joy that the Lord gives us goes beyond human joy. A person who has the joy of the Lord can endure and overcome all adverse circumstances without losing their joy. The reason for this is that God's joy comes from the spirit and does not take outward stimulus to produce a merry heart. A person who is in love with Jesus not only has that merry heart, but they have a continual feast of joy in the Holy Ghost.
As a Christian, all we need to do to get our well of joy flowing is to "prime the pump" just a little. The best way to overcome despondency, worry and foreboding is to start praising God and thanking Him for all the blessings He has given us. Instead of focusing on the evil things, we can turn our attention to the blessings of God. In Christian circles, there is a little song that we sing and the words are: Count your blessings, Name them one by one, Count your blessings, See what God has done! (repeated twice). Many times, when I have been tempted to get depressed and "down-in-the-mouth" about my unhappy circumstances, I just start singing that little chorus and it perks me right up. Praising God is a wonderful way to overcome depression and fear.
We should always have the attitude of praise and thanksgiving toward God in our hearts no matter what kind of trial or trouble we are going through. The Bible tells us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, "In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Now let us notice the Scripture says to praise God in everything, not for everything. It is the will of God to always be thankful. Everything that happens to us is not always the will of God.
One of the first things we need to know about God is that He is the source of all good things. He loves us. In fact, the Scripture says He loved us so much He sent His son Jesus to die for us so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. We should not believe in praising God for tragedies, for sickness, for bad things, yet we should believe in praising Him in these circumstances. You see, the bad things did not come from God and we don't want to blame the Lord for something the devil sent. Our God is not the author of sickness, sin, tragedies, sorrow and heartache. The devil is the one who sends these things and then tries to get us to blame them on the Lord.
If we belong to God, then the devil is off limits when he tries to bring sickness, poverty, sorrow, fear or any other bad thing; we can use the name of Jesus against him and he will flee. We can also use the weapon of praise; "praising God" no matter what Satan is trying to do to us. We can say, "Lord, I love and worship You, no matter what Satan is doing; I want You to know I love You, and Lord, I know You love me." Satan will have to flee when we begin praising God because the Bible says the Lord inhabits the praises of His people. "But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel" (Psalm 22:3).
The book of Psalms is a wonderful book of praises and songs to the Lord. Some of the greatest Psalms of praises were written by David and recorded in Psalms 29, 30, 34 and 103. We can meditate on these words and find that praise will lift our hearts from despair. Praise is one of the greatest weapons against fear and loneliness. Worshipful songs and music can lift us up when we are depressed or lonely. Praise can bring about our prayer answers for the Lord loves to fellowship with and give to those with grateful hearts. The Lord's nature is one of joy, and therefore He wants us to be joyful. We should be thankful and grateful for all He has done for us. His sacrifice for our sins on the cross should be enough to make us eternally grateful and cause us to praise Him for evermore!!
Prayer for the Day
Dear Father God, I am so thankful to be called a child of God. Forgive me when I fall into the devil's trap of complaining or worrying. Lord, help me to cast my cares upon You, for I know that You care for me. Help me also to not allow contrary circumstances to get me down, but rather, may I remember that I serve a mighty God Who is greater that my circumstances. I do praise You, Lord, and when I think of all the things You have done for me over the years, I am truly grateful. Fill me with Your joy, peace and love daily so that I might serve You with a merry heart. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Proverbs 15:15(Amp): "All the days of the desponding afflicted are made evil (by anxious thoughts and foreboding), but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast (regardless of circumstances).

This verse in Proverbs states that bad circumstances do not have to produce a bad attitude in a person. Difficult circumstances do not have to produce an evil disposition. We can choose how we are going to react to our circumstances. Some people allow their circumstances to rule them, instead of allowing the Holy Spirit to rule them. Some people, all the days of their lives, will experience evil days because they never have learned to overcome the devil's attacks of evil, fear, worry and depression.
