So yesterday bible study lesson was titled, "He Had To Die". Last week we discussed why did Jesus have to die and came up with a list of reasons and yesterday we added to the list.

1. Redemption - To buy back or deliver from a situation from which one is powerless to liberate themselves from. There are three elements of redemption, 1) A testament or will demands death, 2) Forgiveness demands blood, 3) Judgement demands a substitute.
2. Taste Death - Hebrew 2:6-9 with 9 being the key verse. Taste means to know something, to partake fully, to experience something to the full.
3. For God to be the focus and center of our existence again. (2 Cor 5:14-15). Note: Jesus love hits us from every angle. Jesus died for us to stop living for ourselves. Fulfillment comes when we live to please God, example is Enoch. When we live for our selves his death was of no affect.
4. To destroy the power of death. (1 John 3:8, Heb 2:14)

Now all the reasons listed are very import but number 4 stood out to me. So let look at that further.

Destroy means - 1) To annihilate, 2) To make something in effective, 3) To render powerless, 4) Reduce to inactivity, 5) To do away with, 6) To cause to be idle, 7) Bring into subjection

Power (kratos in greek) means - The rule, the control, the dominion

Devil (diabolos in greek) means - A false accuser or slanderer. The devils goal is to divide and slander

Lets review Lucifer and how he looked prior to the Garden of Eden. Lucifer was a Cherub (Eze 28:12-17). The the verses from Ezekiel it states, "Thou sealest up the sum", which means if you seen Lucifer then you looked upon God in his perfectness. Lucifer was full of wisdom but became the father of lies. He was perfect in beauty. Reflected the glory of God through his body. His body was worship. Lucifer was the master Cherub. Wings covered the entire throne of God. But he also demonstrate that all of Gods creature have free will.

Now in Isaiah 14:12 - 16 shows how unimportant Lucifer is, just read below. The key verse is 16:

12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

So lets recap. So we know Jesus died. We also know Jesus died to destroy the devil and the power of death. And we also know from verse 16 above Lucifer is of no importance. So why do we give him so much credit. The job is already done, Thank You Jesus. In Genesis the devil is describe as a serpent, in Revelation he is described as a beast. He has not changed physically but only how we perceive him in our minds. Think and meditate on that.
